DESCRIPTIONS OF PART-TIME POSITIONS

Aquatics

Lifeguard (Eden Family YMCA)

This position requires a responsible individual with American Red Cross Lifeguard certification and current CPR for the Professional Rescuer and 1st Aid training. Physical, visual and auditory ability to respond swiftly in emergency situations is a necessity. This individual must supervise the activities of swimmers in and around the aquatic facility to see that policies, rules, and regulations are observed and that no hazard to safety is created. Assisting in the opening, closing and maintenance of the pool area is required. The ability to communicate well with children, parents, and co-workers is a necessity. Performing job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the YMCA organization is required.

Swim Instructor (Eden Family YMCA)

Child Care

Nursery Assistant (on-site childcare provided during fitness class hours)

This position requires an individual with the physical, visual and auditory ability and foresight to prevent injury to children ages: infant to 12 years old. This individual must recognize the importance and have the ability to calm a distressed child, and provide physical and emotional care. The ability to communicate well with children, parents, and co-workers is a necessity. Performing job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the YMCA organization is required. Also required, is the treating of all participants fairly and equally, regardless of ability, ensuring the development of positive self-esteem.

All-Day Care Counselor (on-site childcare for school age children, grades K-8)

During summer months and on school holidays, the Eden YMCA provides all day care for working parents. This counselor position requires an individual with the physical, visual and auditory ability and foresight to prevent injury to this age group. This position requires an individual that recognizes the importance and has the ability to calm a distressed child, and provide physical and emotional care. The physical ability to lead and interact in group activities is a necessity. The ability to communicate well with children, parents, and co-workers is a necessity. Performing job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the YMCA organization is required. Also required, is the treating of all participants fairly and equally, regardless of ability, ensuring the development of positive self-esteem.

Before and After School Care Counselor (counselors go to the school site to care for school age children, grades K-8)

This counselor position requires an individual with the physical, visual and auditory ability and foresight to prevent injury to this age group. Before and After School Care Fill-in Counselor

This position is for someone who will fill-in for the counselor when he/she is unable to work. You will need to be able to do all of the assignments required of the regular before and after school care counselor.

Fitness Staff

Fitness Area Assistant (Eden Family YMCA)

This position requires the physical, visual and auditory ability to maintain the cleanliness, maintenance and operations of the fitness area, as well as an individual who can provide positive interaction with members and fellow staff. Applicants must be certified in CPR and 1st Aid or be willing to participate in training. Performing job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the YMCA organization is required.

Fitness Instructor (Eden and Western Rockingham Family YMCAs)

This position requires the physical, visual and auditory ability to lead and teach various fitness classes. Knowledge of proper form and appropriate exercise for age and level of class participants is a necessity. Your area of expertise is considered when making the monthly schedule of classes. Performing job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the YMCA organization is required.

Gymnastics Assistant (Eden and Western Rockingham Family YMCAs)

This position requires the physical, visual and auditory ability to lead, teach, and perform related physical skills for gymnastic instruction. The ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation is required. Knowledge of proper form and appropriate moves for age and level of class participants is a necessity. Communicating positively and effectively with children, parents, and co-workers is required. Performing job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the YMCA organization is required. General Staff

Housekeeping (Eden Family YMCA)

This position requires the physical, visual and auditory ability to maintain the cleanliness of the facility. Applicants are required to work early hours. Applicants must be certified in CPR and 1st Aid or be willing to participate in training. Performing job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the YMCA organization is required.

Member Services Desk Assistant (Eden and Western Rockingham Family YMCAs)

This position requires the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform various duties. Applicants must be capable of multi-tasking and have computer skills, paying attention to detail. This position requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate various membership categories and payment options. Excellent communication skills are required for the receptionist duties and relaying program details to members and potential members. Communicating positively and effectively with children, parents, and co-workers is required. Applicants must be certified in CPR and 1st Aid or be willing to participate in training. Performing job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the YMCA organization is required.

Sports - Youth and Adult

Sports Assistant (Eden Family YMCA)

This position requires the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform various duties required in the operations of the seasonal sport. This position requires an individual who can communicate positively and effectively with children, parents, and co-workers.
