The Eden Family YMCA Hall of Fame was founded in 1980.
The Hall of Fame seeks to give recognition to some of the outstanding individuals who have excelled and who participated in the YMCA programs at some point in their lifetime.
An athlete, YMCA administrator, board member or coach who has given outstanding service to the YMCA is also one of those eligible for election to the Hall of Fame.
Nominations may be made by anyone, but to be eligible, a prospect must have participated in YMCA programs in some way over a period of at least five years, must have been truly outstanding or contributed meritorious service to the YMCA and must have been of good character.
No person may be inducted prior to 35 years old. We do not want to overlook anyone whom we should honor, but we do want to be representative of true excellence or meritorious achievement.
Once an individual has been nominated, he/she remains in the pool for one additional year if not selected for induction.
Generally, no more than five inductees are selected annually by a committee of twelve to fifteen people named because of their involvement and widespread knowledge of the YMCA.
The selections are made in late fall/early winter and the induction ceremonies are held at a banquet annually, generally during the National YMCA Week in late January.
A master of ceremonies will induct the inductees. The inductees and a guest are given complimentary tickets to the banquet. The inductees are presented with a plaque. A display case in the YMCA lists all inductees with a note on their accomplishments.
All details for the ceremonies are handled by the Chief Executive Officer and other pertinent YMCA personnel, along with assistance from the Hall of Fame Committee.
