



2008 Swim Schedule
SWIM CLASS REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
YMCA members must register in person at the front desk at which time all fees for classes must be paid. All members of the YMCA must bring their YMCA cards when registering. Registration will begin on the specified Friday morning at 5:00 a.m. and continue until Sunday night at closing. If you cannot come to enroll your child, you may send someone else provided they know all the necessary information and have the class registration fee.
Swim Class Fees: Youth - $30.00
Adult - $30.00
Skippers (Level I) - 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Polliwog (Level I) - 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Guppy (Level II) - 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Minnow (Level III) - 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Fish (IV) / Flying Fish (V) / Shark (VI) / Adult - 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
DESCRIPTION OF SWIM CLASSES
SKIPPER Level I--Water ExplorationFor those too young to start the progressive program.
Purpose: Help students feel comfortable in the water. Floating, gliding, kicking, rhythmic breathing are learned. Must be able to swim 15 yds. using a paddle stroke to advance to Guppy.
Ages 3, 4, and 5 years old
POLLIWOG (Beginner) Level I--Water Exploration
Purpose: Help students feel comfortable in the water. Floating, gliding, kicking, rhythmic breathing are learned. Must be able to swim 15 yds. using a paddle stroke to advance to Guppy.
Must be 6 years old.
GUPPY (Intermediate Beginner) Level II--
Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Purpose: Give students success with fundamental skills. Rotary breathing, front crawl, backstroke and water safety are learned. Must be able to swim 25 yards of front crawl with rotary breathing to advance to minnow.
MINNOW (advanced Beginner) Level III--Stroke Development
Purpose: Build on skills in level #2 by providing additional guided practice. Refining front crawl and backstroke. Diving and endurance swimming are the goals of this level. Must be able to swim 25 yards of front crawl and backstroke to advance to fish.
FISH (Intermediate) Level IV--Stroke Improvement
Purpose: Develop confidence in strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills.
FLYING FISH (Advanced Intermediate)
Level V--Stroke Refinement
Purpose: Provide further coordination and refinement of strokes.
SHARK (Swimmer) Level VI--Swimming Skill Proficiency
Purpose: Refine the strokes so students swim with easy efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
