WESTERN ROCKINGHAM FAMILY YMCA

FITNESS CLASSES

These classes are designed by the National YMCA where our first commitment is to the personal development of each individual. These classes are designed to help participants grow by clarifying personal values, interacting with others, appreciating diversity, becoming better leaders and supporters, developing specific skills and HAVING FUN. Classes are divided into four (4) components. (All components are individualized by each person working in their own target zone, so the beginner and the advanced can work out together.)

1. Warm-up: Purpose is to prepare the body for more strenuous activity to follow.

2. Cardio-respiratory training: Purpose is to improve the functional capacity of the circulatory system (heart, blood and blood vessels) and the respiratory system (lungs.)

3. Strength and endurance training: Purpose is to provide moderate resistance to each major muscle group to improve the strength of these muscles.

4. Cool-down: Purpose is to bring the body back to its resting state.
